In Pictures: New wraps for two trams in Manchester

Two more trams are sporting new wraps on Manchester Metrolink following the application of new vinyls as a new month begins. The colours used couldn’t be much more of a contrast though with 3076 this year’s Love Connects Everyone tram whilst 3081 has a much more subtle colour for its Oura Ring advert.

Douglas Horse Tramway extension finally gets its business case

£3,036,170. That is how much it is expected that the re-extension of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway to the Sea Terminal would cost according to the new business case which will be discussed at Tynwald later this month. The Department of Infrastructure had committed to preparing the business case earlier this year and after missing the deadline for the May sitting managed to get in for June with just half an hour to spare!

Undergraduate survey looks at public perceptions of light rail systems

An undergraduate studying at the University of Lincoln is currently completing a dissertation which is looking at how the public views the role of light rail in areas such as economic development, regeneration, and modal shift, alongside wider attitudes towards sustainable urban transport. And as part of his research he is asking members of the public, and those working in the transport sector, to complete a survey.

In Pictures: The trams of Walton-on-the-Naze

Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex (close to Clacton) is not exactly somewhere a lot of enthusiasts will think of as somewhere which has a lot of association with trams but you would be wrong as it is home to a number of tram bodies in various conditions which have been collected over the years. In May 2026, Ken Jones had a private visit to see the trams and managed to capture the following images of the five trams which remain stored there, two inside and three outside under tarpaulins.

Government announce new Mass Transit Taskforce

It is probably no surprise to many of you reading these words on British Trams Online that there are many, many obstacles in the way of new tram and light rail systems being constructed across the UK. And that has also now been recognised by the government who have announced the creation of a Mass Transit Taskforce who will be making recommendations to help remove barriers to the delivery of new schemes.
