Brian Turner 1940-2026

Brian Turner, author of many books mainly on the tramways of the Fylde Coast, has passed away after a short illness.

Many reading these pages will have multiple books by Brian Turner. Seeing his name at the bottom of a book’s cover was a clear sign of quality and he remained a prolific author in recent years with several complementary titles on tramways across the Fylde Coast. With many of these books only have limited print runs you knew you had to be quick in order to secure a copy.

Our thoughts are with his family at this time.

    May he rest in peace.

  2. Fred Littlewood says:

    From Fred and Lynn Littlewood.
Sorry to hear the sad news, I have several of his excellent books

  3. Andy says:

Brian was a great author and fountain of knowledge, not only on trams in the North West, but also on buses too. He will be much missed.

  4. Michael Morton says:

Brian wrote not only about tramways but was a consummate historian and no book that bore his name was ever published without precise detail being researched and referenced beforehand.
Apart from being a professional historian and author, his books about the tramways on the Fylde were, absolutely, the only ones to appear that were 100% factually correct with no conjecture added where the facts were not clearly apparent.
He was, with his son Paul, in the process of producing another book and I sincerely hope that Paul will complete it in his memory.
Brian was an absolute gentleman and I am honoured to have known him both in my professional career in buses and trams but also as a tramway and bus enthusiast.
The transport book world will miss him as will anyone and everyone who knew.
My thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.

  5. Nigel Pennick says:

His books are well written and very informative. He will be missed.
