As we have seen some extreme weather in Blackpool over the past few weeks in this series of “Picture in Time” we carry on that theme with a photo taken in the snow.
This photo was taken in November 1968 at Bispham and comes after snowfall on the Fylde Coast which seems to be causing no issues for the tram service as Brush Railcoach 624 continues on its merry way with a northbound service to Fleetwood. The tram is in the standard fleet livery of the time which includes the orange trolley tower.
624 had only become 624 earlier that year as part of the mass renumbering of the tram fleet but would only have another three years in passenger service as in 1971 it would be converted to a Works Car, a purpose it would continue to be officially available for until 2002. By then it was numbered 259 and in a dark green livery but with it retaining a number of original features it was preserved by the then Lancastrian Transport Trust (2006). It remains stored at Rigby Road Depot.
