In Pictures: NET 235 Old Market Square derailment

We reported at the end of last week about the derailment of Nottingham Express Transit 235 in Old Market Square as it used the crossover to head back towards the railway station. Further details of what caused the rear of the tram have not been released but reports have suggested that the RAIB do not deem it a serious enough incident to launch a full investigation. David Beardsell was in Nottingham following the derailment and has provided us with these photos.

Normal Manchester Metrolink services resume following terror attack

In Pictures: Blackpool 718 relaunched with a shiny new coat!

The star attraction on the Blackpool tramway for the latest heritage gold operating weekend has been Rebuilt Balloon 718 which has just been released from the Paint Shop in a sparkling coat of green and cream paint. Following a period of use in plain white, the tram was relaunched with a special outing on the afternoon and evening of Friday 26th May, as a warm-up to the events of the Bank Holiday weekend.

Whereas when most tramways opted for electric operation when the time came to replace horse trams Neath Council unusually opted for gas powered trams making the survival and display of this tram even more significant. Last chance to ride Blackpool 623 in Manchester (for now!)

As has been reported previously, Blackpool Brush Railcoach 623 is heading back home for an operating loan period to help mark the 80th anniversary of Blackpool’s Brush cars. However, before it returns to Blackpool there will be a final chance this year to ride on the tram at the Heaton Park Tramway in Manchester this weekend.

Tram derails in Old Market Square **updated**

Nottingham Express Transit services have been severely disrupted following the low speed derailment in Old Market Square of Citadis 235. The derailment happened shortly after 1530 on Thursday 25th May as the tram was using the crossover just beyond the Old Market Square stop on the Royal Centre side.

Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours reveal Spring Bank Holiday output

Once again another weekend of enhanced heritage tram activity in Blackpool is almost here, with the Spring Bank Holiday weekend providing the perfect excuse for three days of the excellent ‘Gold’ service to be in operation. As with the May Day Bank Holiday weekend, each day will see an illuminated tram join the six timetabled cars to give a total of seven trams running daily, each of which will run one trip to Fleetwood.

Douglas Bay Horse Tramway to resume limited service

Services will resume of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway from Wednesday 24th May following the temporary closure after the horses were found to be suffering with a respiratory infection. An hourly service will run on Wednesday 24th with trams every half hour from Thursday 25th May.

In Pictures: Blackpool 144 in the USA

Standard 144 was the very first Blackpool tram to be exported to the USA when it departed in 1955. Over the past 62 years the tram has remained at the Seashore Trolley Museum in Maine and although it has been a number of years since it ran in service 144 has recently seen a significant amount of work take place to bring it back to operational condition.

Douglas Bay Horse Tramway to resume limited services

A limited service will resume of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway from Wednesday 24th May, Isle of Man Transport have confirmed. All services had been suspended on 10th May following the discovery a number of horses were experiencing a respiratory issue but after treatment a service will be able to resume.
