In Pictures: More advert changes in Manchester

Following quickly on our last update of advert changes for trams on the Manchester Metrolink system is another round-up where we have seen a tram lose on set of vinyls in favour of a new set.

The tram which has had a change of advertiser is 3117 – and as a result it is now on to its 11th different ad, showing once again how once a tram starts with adverts it can’t seem to stop!

3117 had been advertising Sunglass Hut from June 2026 but this contract is now at an end (similar to last year when 3097 carried adverts for the same company June-July) and rather than being one of the trams to head back to standard fleet colours it has now been adorned with vinyls for the Arndale Centre.

The Arndale Centre advert is the second time that the large shopping complex has decided to advertise on a tram, and in fact it is remarkably similar to that carried by 3081 between June 2025 and January 2026.

For the record 3117’s adverts over the years have been for Manchester College (October-December 2016), Cyberpunk 2077 (December 2020-February 2021), Lifebuoy Soap (September 2021-June 2023), Yayoi Kusama Aviva Studio (July-September 2023), Marks Electrical (December 2023-January 2025), Aperol Spritz (June-August 2025), Wednesday (August 2025-September 2025), Wicked For Good (October-December 2025), Hoppers (February-April 2026) and Sunglass Hut (June-August 2026).

Another new advert has also just been seen out on the tracks as well with 3110 receiving a design for Footlocker (yet another sports clothing/footwear retailer who think Metrolink is a good way to promote their products!). This advert is mainly black with white writing.

This is the very first advert for 3110. Whilst we have come very used to seeing the same trams cycling through adverts this becomes the second tram in recent weeks to get its first.

To clarify recent advert removals as well – 3075 has lost its ad for Aperol Spritz, 3081 its design for Oura Ring, 3091 for Sports Direct and 3100 for JD Sports. All of these trams are currently in fleet livery.

Another look at 3117’s advert as the tram is seen heading away from Victoria. This is one of those advert’s which falls into the “busy” category! 6th August 2026.

3075 is back in fleet livery as seen here on its way to East Didsbury on 5th August 2026.

And 3091 is also back in silver and yellow. Mosley Street on 5th August 2026 with it at the head of a double unit. (Photographs x3 by Oliver Shenton)
