With the main operating season of most heritage tramways starting to come to an end we take another look at just which trams have run in service during the year. As it was August the last time we took a look at this list there has been a little bit of movement – with probably the biggest addition coming at Crich with London County Council 1 having now entered service. All night trams in Edinburgh for Halloween music festival

Edinburgh Trams services will continue to run through the night on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th October to help music fans get back from Terminal V Halloween, Scotland’s biggest electronic music festival. Trams will continue to run every 10 minutes until 0300 and then every 20 minutes until the normal start of daytime services on both nights.

A trip to… South Yorkshire Supertram

NET urge students to secure their discounted season tickets as figures reveal 42% of tram users fined are aged 16-21

Students in Nottingham are being reminded that they can still secure a discounted season ticket for travel on the city’s tram network with the deal ending on Sunday 20th October. With recent figures showing that 42% tram users who have been fined for travelling without a valid ticket within the past year are those aged 16-21, Nottingham Express Transit are urging students to take advantage of this discounted rate before its too late.

In Pictures: Inside the depot at Beamish

The tram fleet at Beamish has once again had a busy year with two or three trams in service on any given day when the museum is open (which is daily from March until the start of November!). This has led to some of the trams enjoying some much needed TLC recently (including Sunderland 16 which was due back in service just after the 70th anniversary of the closure of its original home tramway on 1st October) and allowed for the chance to see some of the trams at rest in the depot. Bus and tram in head-on collision in Manchester City Centre

A bus and a tram have been involved in a head-on collision at Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester City Centre. It happened at around 1415 on Friday 18th October and saw a bus operated by Magic Bus collide with the front of Metrolink M5000 3053.

Sir Paul Smith latest to have tram named after him in Nottingham

There has been a renaming of a tram in Nottingham with 230 now carrying the name after Beeston-born designer Sir Paul Smith. This was a renaming for the tram with it having previously been named George Green (a British mathematical physicist who lived in the 18th and 19th centuries).

Long-serving Metro team member recognsied at Light Rail Awards

Gavin Lloyd, Technical Engineer at West Midlands Metro, was recognised at the recent Global Light Rail Awards in the Judges Special Award category. He has worked at West Midlands Metro for 18 years and in 2015 was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease but in spite of that has continued to work at Wednesbury Depot.

Man taken to hospital after being hit by tram

NHS workers poems showcased on Metro

There is more poetry for travellers on the Tyne and Wear Metro to enjoy with a series of poems written by NHS workers now being showcased at several stations on the network. These are the result of the first Newcastle Hospitals Charity writer-in-residence programme for Newcastle Hospitals staff, hosted in partnership with writing development agency for the North of England, New Writing North.

In Pictures: Update from West Midlands Metro Dudley extension
