Work to return Aberdeen 11 to the rails progresses

It may not be getting restored as a tram but work on returning Aberdeen Suburban Tramway Company 11 to the rails is continuing to make good progress at the Alford Valley Community Railway in Aberdeenshire.

The vehicle was converted into hauled rolling stock at the 2 foot gauge railway a number of years ago but has not been operational for some time. The railway was closed in 2017 needing some major maintenance and after takeover by a community organisation it reopened in 2023. But with the inevitable backlog of maintenance which has accrued, 11 was not ready to be used at this juncture although work has been taking place in their workshops over the past couple of years.

Over the winter the tram body has been lowered back on its trucks which means it is once again mobile which will make the remaining tasks easier to complete.

It is hoped that 11 may be back in use as coaching stock later this year.
