In Pictures: MediaCityUK service extended to Ashton as part of trial

Always looking to improve the service, Manchester Metrolink have recently extended the MediaCityUK to Etihad Campus service through to Ashton-under-Lyne to as part of a trial to give a six minute headway between Harbour City and Ashton. Two such trial days are due to take place – the first was on Thursday 13th September with a second set to happen on Tuesday 18th September.

In Pictures: Last stage of Supertram rail replacement works underway

The final stage of 2018’s rail replacement works on Stagecoach Supertram are now underway with the work now moving on to Eckington Way which is affecting trams on the Blue route – including the very rare use of the crossover at Donetsk Way.

In Pictures: New advert for Edinburgh Trams 271

One of the shortest adverts yet to be seen on Edinburgh Trams has come to an end with 271 losing its ad for Tiso. But the tram hasn’t had to wait for long in standard fleet livery as it has become the fourth tram to be advertise the Parabola development at Edinburgh Park and Edinburgh City Vision 2050 – complete with website details of the campaign asking locals what they want to see in Edinburgh in the year 2050. The tram’s new look was first seen on 10th September 2018.

San Francisco Boats in action

Question, where is the only place so far in 2018 to have seen two Blackpool Boat Cars run on the same day? Answer, San Francisco! The two Boat Cars resident in San Francisco – 228 and 233 – were both used over the Muni Heritage Weekend on 8th and 9th September; the first time both have been used for quite some time and a pleasing development for the future of these trams.

Man dies after being struck by tram at Saughton

A man has died after he was hit by a tram at Saughton on Edinburgh Trams. The tragic incident happened at around 1215 on Tuesday 11th September and led to tram services being suspended for several hours.

In Pictures: Blackpool Heritage service

We usually only feature the Blackpool heritage trams when there is a gold timetable in operation but in this pictorial we take a look at a standard daily heritage service with two trams in service. On 10th August the two chosen trams were Balloon 717 and Railcoach 680 with Bolton 66 also in use later on one of the Ghost Tram specials. Kevin Bartolf has provided these images.

Final stage of 2018 rail replacement in Sheffield to start

Area 5 of the rail replacement project on Stagecoach Supertram for 2018 will get underway on Monday 10th September and last for 12 days until Friday 21st September. This time the affected section will be between Donetsk Way and Halfway with trams from Malin Bridge terminating at Donetsk Way throughout this period and buses completing journeys.

Special bike only trams return for Pedal for Scotland

Edinburgh Trams will be running a selection of bike only trams for participants in the Pedal for Scotland event on Sunday 9th September following the success of a similar service last year. These non-stop services will run in the morning between Haymarket and Ingliston Park & Ride with returns in the afternoon for anyone with a pre-purchased “Tram Transport” wristband.

In Pictures: Glasgow 812 as you’ve never seen it before!

In the last full week of the school summer holidays a special event was held at Crich with children – of all ages! – encouraged to get involved at the museum building with Lego bricks. This included creating a mosaic of Glasgow 812 using Lego which was built in the Bandstand at Victoria Park – and it was an incredible sight!

In Pictures: Trafford Park extension bridge installation starts

Work on building the Manchester Metrolink extension from Pomona to Trafford Park is continuing at a pace with the weekend of 1st and 2nd September seeing the start of major works to install beams for the connecting ramp between Pomona Viaduct and the route alongside the Manchester Ship Canal. This is the first weekend of major bridge works with 8th and 9th September seeing work to install the Bridgewater Canal bridge steelwork. Steve Hyde went out on 2nd September to see the work completed at Pomona.

In Pictures: NET Shipstone Street trackwork

Having previously looked at the rail replacement worksite just beyond the stop at The Forest we now take a look at the area around Shipstone Street which was also a hive of activity during the closure. All work was completed on schedule allowing a full service to resume as planned on Monday 3rd September with these views showing the almost complete worksite on Friday 31st August.
