555 022 has become the 46th and final of the Stadler built trains for the Tyne and Wear Metro network to enter service – although it was only used briefly on its first day with it being withdrawn from use with a door fault.
555 022 has been in northeast England since 20th February 2026 when it arrived as part of the final trio of deliveries. It came with 555 029 (entered service 18th June 2026) and 555 046 (entered service 14th September 2026).
As part of the commissioning process it has gone through mileage accumulation across the network and with this having been completed it was cleared for an entry into service, which duly happened on 13th October 2026.
With 555 022’s entry into service it completes the process of trains carrying passengers which commenced with 555 021 on 18th December 2024, some 22 months ago (or 665 days!).
