The weekend of 6th and 7th June 2026 saw a special event held at Queens Road Depot in Manchester to help celebrate its 125th anniversary. Whilst trams left for the last time in 1938, the structure has remained in transport use throughout and is still in every day use in 2026. Photos from Trevor Hall of the special event.

Edinburgh Trams North-South line extension consultation results presented to Council

A consultation into plans for extending the Edinburgh Trams system from Granton in the north to the BioQuarter and beyond took place between August and November 2025. Opinions were sought on the often controversial plans – thanks in no small part to one of the planned alignments via the Roseburn Path – to feed into the overarching Strategic Business Case (SBC) which is currently being developed.

Be prepared warning as Manchester prepares for a busy weekend

Friday 19th to Sunday 21st June are expected to be one of the busiest weekends for travel around Greater Manchester with Heaton Park playing host to the Parklife festival whilst Take That are at the Etihad Stadium with other events also taking place. Ahead of the weekend Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) are asking people to be prepared and plan their journeys in advance to use public transport.

Blackpool 762 & Liverpool 869 return to service at Crich

Throughout this year all the trams which had been entering service at the National Tramway Museum also saw operation in 2025, but that has changed over the past week with two more being used for service neither of which were out last year. They are Liverpool 869 and Blackpool 762, the latter of which hadn’t run since 2019!

Volunteers wanted to help restore Carlisle’s last tram

The Workington Transport Heritage Trust (WTHT) are the proud owners of the lower deck of the last surviving Carlisle tram and have made an appeal for more volunteers to help with its restoration. Their big aim is that it would become a local tourist attraction but before that can happen they need extra help to bring the tram back to a condition more akin to a tramcar.

Whitley Bay Metro station footbridge reopens

The historic footbridge at the Grade II listed Whitley Bay Tyne and Wear Metro station has been reopened to the public following major restoration work. It was used for the first time since its painstaking restoration on Monday 8th June 2026 and is now in regular use once again.

Another delay for West Midlands Metro to Dudley

In the news that will probably come as a surprise to absolutely no-one, the opening of the first stage of the West Midlands Metro Black Country line extension is set to be delayed. The end of August 2026 date will now not be met with no new date set although Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) officials are saying it should be by the end of the year.

Consultation opens on DLR Thamesmead extension

A new public consultation is now underway on Transport for London’s plans to extend the Docklands Light Railway from Gallions Reach to Thamesmead via Beckton Riverside. This latest consultation now has more detailed information, including station designs, construction plans and environmental impacts, and will be open until Thursday 16th July.

Extra trams to run for first Murrayfield concert of the summer

Zach Bryan will be appearing at Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium on Sunday 14th June – the first in a series of summer concerts at the venue this year – and to help those travelling to see the American country singer Edinburgh Trams will be running extra services before and after the concert.
