The summer meeting of UKTram’s Heritage Tramway Committee recently took place in Llandudno where members once again exchanged knowledge and discussed common challenges with the aim of supporting the long-term future of the UK’s heritage tramways.
During the meeting there were discussions around the management of asbestos in heritage tramcars and overhead line equipment, attracting and retaining volunteers, funding opportunities and the ongoing challenge of achieving long-term sustainability.
Members also had the chance to take a tour of the Great Orme Tramway’s facilities where they saw recent improvements to the tramway’s maintenance areas as well as learnt about the work being undertaken to support its future operation.
Mike Crabtree, is the Chair of the Heritage Tramway Committee, and he had this to say: “It is very encouraging and rewarding that the representatives of the various heritage tramways are working together and supporting each other with advice and guidance to help each other achieve success and sustainability.”
