Douglas Prom works to resume

After being suspended at the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, it has now been announced that works on the Douglas Promenade reconstruction – including the relaying of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway – will resume from Monday 4th May with the aim now to complete them by Easter 2021 – some four months earlier than the last plan.

Further stages of 2020 Supertram rail replacement work confirmed

We reported last month on the first phase of the 2020 Stagecoach Supertram rail replacement project which will get underway on Monday 4th May in the Hackenthorpe, Donetsk Way and Birley Golf Course areas and last until 5th June. It has now been confirmed that there will be three further phases of work this year, which is the last of the current three rail replacement project.

Wirral Bus & Tram Show 2020 cancelled

It has been announced that the Wirral Bus & Tram Show – due to take place on Sunday 4th October 2020 – has been cancelled as a result of the continued Coronavirus pandemic. Whilst it may seem a very early cancellation, it takes six months to plan and with the uncertainty of when even basic social distancing may still be required the sensible decision has been made to cancel the event for the first time in its history.

Still Standing! Queen’s Road Depot, Manchester Corporation Tramways

This building still very much remains in transport use today with part of the structure still remains in use as a bus garage whilst the Greater Manchester Museum of Transport also occupies a section.

RAIB to publish safety digest after person hit by tram in Croydon

The RAIB have revealed that they will be releasing a safety digest following their initial investigation into an incident on London Tramlink which saw a person hit by a tram at Gravel Hill stop on the New Addington line. The incident happened at approximately 0805 on 10th March 2020 and saw a tram hit someone who had just alighted from the tram and was crossing the line. The safety digest is planned to be released in the next few weeks.

May Day Bank Holiday engineering works for Luas

It has been announced that there will be a partial closure of Luas’ Red Line on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd May – which remains the May Day Bank Holiday in Ireland this year but don’t forget in the UK its been moved a week back for what was planned to be a VE Day celebration. No trams will run from Blackhorse to Connolly/The Point on either day for essential engineering works with a replacement bus service operating on the affected section. A Red line service will continue to operate between Tallaght/Saggart and Blackhorse on both days. A full route will resume on Bank Holiday Monday 4th May, operating at Sunday frequencies.

FTT launch easy way to donate as progress continues on 279’s restoration
