One of the lengthy restoration projects which has been ongoing around the UK for some time is Lowestoft 14 which has been under attention at the East Anglia Transport Museum in Carlton Colville. As this pictorial article shows the tram has recently found its way to the front of the tram depot where the chance has been taken to work on the upper deck paintwork.

Metrolink release first performance stats since February

In Pictures: More history discovered in Edinburgh as Trams to Newhaven project continues

One of the fascinating aspects of the current stage of the Trams to Newhaven project in Edinburgh is the archaeological finds which have long laid buried under the streets of the city. This is certainly the case around the South Leith Parish Church where a skeleton has recently been unearthed as the team from GUARD Archaeology continue their work (please note this article contains images of the recent findings including the skeleton).

Yellow for new Tyne and Wear Metro trains

Metro will be finished in a vibrant yellow colour scheme as a nod to the iconic original livery carried on the trains when the system opened 40 years ago. The yellow will be accompanied by black and pale grey along the bodyside and the livery has been chosen following input from passengers and employees.

In Pictures: Wilko’s demolition underway

Metrolink Engineering Work: Saturday 19th September

Essential engineering work on Manchester Metrolink’s Oldham and Rochdale will see a revised service operating on Saturday 19th September. No trams will run between Rochdale Town Centre and Shaw and Crompton all day with this closure area extended to Victoria from 2000.

In Pictures: East Anglia Transport Museum back in action

The East Anglia Transport Museum in Carlton Colville reopened to the public from Sunday 9th August and has been open every Sunday and Thursday since with the inevitable Covid-19 restrictions in place to make the experience of visitors as safe as possible. One of the opening days was Sunday 13th September and that was a day that Bryan Grint made a visit to see what was going on.

Trams in Video: The Petrin Funicular – Prague

This latest video is a little bit different from other editions of “Trams in Video” as we head to the Czech Republic for footage of the Petrin Funicular. Linking lower Prague with the park in which the Petrin Tower stands this line gives spectacular  views of Prague from the top as seen in this video. This is the third incarnation of the line with it re-opening in 1985 after refurbishment.

Nexus to start biggest ever Metro driver training school

The days of services being cancelled or curtailed on the Tyne and Wear Metro because of driver shortages will hopefully be a thing of the past from next spring after the announcement of the biggest ever driver training school since the service began in 1980. 30 new drivers are being taken on during September and October with the plan that they will be fully qualified by March and April 2021.
