Extra trams for big match at Murrayfield

On Saturday 20th July Murrayfield Stadium – more known for rugby of course – will be playing host to two of the biggest names in Scottish and English football as Glasgow Rangers take on Manchester United in a pre-season friendly. And anyone planning on attending is being encouraged to take Edinburgh Trams to the venue with the company confirming they will be running extra trams before and after the match.

Priorities for new tram lines and tram-trains in Greater Manchester confirmed

Greater Manchester could see an even larger light rail network if plans confirmed in a recent press release come to fruition. Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham has his sights set on not only expanding the existing Metrolink network with more traditional services but also to introduce the very first tram-train services for the region.

In Pictures: Crich Tramway Village on 7th July

Car attempts to drive into Piccadilly Undercroft

After a closure for trackworks on London Road, Manchester Metrolink probably hoped that Tuesday 9th July would be a smooth day with a full service being able to operate once again following the previous split meaning the Ashton line only had a shuttle to Piccadilly with nothing able to run from there to Piccadilly Gardens. But of course that didn’t happen with a car managing to find itself where it shouldn’t.

More discounted tram travel in the West Midlands!

The Birmingham Jazz & Blues Festival will be taking place for the 40th time between 19th and 28th July and volunteers and performers will be able to enjoy a 10% discount on Metro tickets.

NET set to propose new timetable

Nottingham Express Transit operators Tramlink Nottingham are planning to propose a new timetable to Nottingham City Council which would see a major rethink of when trams should be operating. The news was unveiled by Andrew Conroy at the most recent meeting of the Greater Nottingham Light Rail Transit Authority which also saw general updates on NET, including the all important punctuality figures.

Another blow for West Midlands Metro extension to Dudley and Brierley Hill

A project which had already been split into two phases is now facing more delays and potential curtailment with cost overruns once again getting the blame. The West Midlands Metro Brierley Hill extension which is due to run via Dudley and Merry Hill had been originally due to open later this year before more recent literature had seen “within a year” but now according to documents due to be discussed at a forthcoming West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) meeting it will be autumn 2025 before trams can run as far as Dudley with it now looking like Merry Hill would be the limit of phase two rather than Brierley Hill.

Metrolink services to Rochdale to remain suspended until further notice

Transport for Greater Manchester have confirmed that services to Rochdale Town Centre will remain suspended until further notice as its unsafe to run trams between Derker and Shaw and Crompton following a landslip. With this issue set to be affecting things for some time its also announced that dedicated bus replacements will be in place daily from Monday 15th July.

NET 213 gets new Pride vinyls

For the first time since the system opened in 2004, Nottingham Express Transit is fully embracing Pride with special vinyls applied to Incentro 213. With Notts Pride taking place on Saturday 27th July, Nottingham Express Transit have teamed up with Alstom and East Midlands Railway to encourage people to “Ride with Pride”.
