Anyone who is either a current member of the armed forces or a veteran will be able to travel for free on the South Yorkshire Supertram network on both Remembrance Sunday (10th November) and Armistice Day (Monday 11th November).
Supertram has an emotive connection with the armed forces, with many veterans employed on the trams today. And now as a token of their respect and gratitude to those who have served past and present free travel will be offered on Sunday 10th and Monday 11th November to:
- Veterans wearing medals or a veteran badge
- Armed forces personnel in uniform or with a Military ID
Nigel Wragg, Commercial Manager at South Yorkshire Supertram, said: “Remembrance Day is an important day of reflection across the country, honouring all those who served our country with bravery, and those who still do. We are proud to offer free Supertram travel to serving military personnel and veterans alike across the network. With this small gesture we hope to demonstrate our gratitude by making it as easy as possible for people to attend local events.”
Trams will also be wearing poppies in the lead-up to Remembrance Sunday and on both days, if safe to do so, drivers can bring their trams to a half at 1100 for a 2 minute silence.
