Edinburgh Trams celebrate more award wins

Its been quite a week for Edinburgh Trams as they have won not one, not two but three awards at two separate ceremonies held in London. Included in the wins were Most Improved System at the Global Light Rail Awards whilst at the National Transport Awards they were named as UK Tram Operator of the Year.

In Pictures: Supertram 118 changes adverts

South Yorkshire Supertram 118 is a Pretty Little Thing no more as its long-standing adverts for the online retailer have been replaced by a new ad for e-on. This is the first time that e-on have had a full ad on Supertram, although of course they have a long history of advertising on trams in the UK with Nottingham Express Transit a regular haunt for them.

Nexus’ National Poetry Day competition returns

Nexus are once again offering budding poets the chance to see their poetry displayed on the Tyne and Wear Metro with the launch of their annual poetry competition. The winner and three runners up will see their poem displayed on a large poster at Longbenton station.

KeolisAmey retain DLR franchise

KeolisAmey will continue to operate and maintain the Docklands Light Railway for a further eight years following the award of the latest franchise contract to the firm by Transport for London. KeolisAmey have run the DLR for the past ten years and this latest award will build on their success whilst also putting customers at the heart of improvements.

Metro features in new exhibition at Newcastle University

Concrete Dreams is at the Farrell Centre and it will explore the ideas, personalities and political climate which transformed Newcastle into a modernist city.

Tyne and Wear Metro Engineering Works: 28th October to 1st November

Lasting for five days between 28th October and 1st November, the work is to future proof the network and is just the latest in a long line of major investment into the infrastructure of the Tyne and Wear Metro.

In Pictures: Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours Enhanced Weekend

TfL use DLR to pilot new priority seat signage

New priority seat signage is to be piloted on the Docklands Light Railway as part of Transport for London’s Priority Seating Week. This is a dedicated week of action to raise awareness of priority seats across the public transport network and comes alongside a competition for school children to bring it to life with creative artwork.

Expansion of NET Park and Ride states abandoned

Plans to add extra spaces to Park and Ride sites on Nottingham Express Transit have been abandoned as a result of reduced demand with the increase in home working. It had been planned that more spaces would be provided at both Hucknall and Phoenix Park but this now won’t happen.

In Pictures: West Midlands Metro 56 named

West Midlands Metro 56 has become the latest tram on the network to be named. It was named in a special ceremony at Wednesbury Depot on Monday 30th September and now carries the name Amman Ahmed, a 21 year old volunteer from Dudley who has been recognised in the 50for50WM campaign.
