Emergency engineering works affect Metrolink

Two sets of engineering works have led to Manchester Metrolink disruption on Wednesday 15th January 2025. Firstly, trams were unable to travel via Piccadilly Gardens with this followed by more work needed on the Eccles line.

The first set of works were announced as taking place in Piccadilly Gardens and meant that services couldn’t run from Mosley Street to Market Street. Trams on the Manchester Airport line and between Bury and Altrincham had to be diverted via Exchange Square and 2CC. Services on running from Bury to Piccadilly were able to run as normal.

This work was completed by 1035 allowing normal services to resume.

But that wasn’t the end of it as more emergency works were needed on the Eccles line. This saw no trams able to run on the line with complete section from Pomona to Eccles via MediaCityUK shut to allow the works to be completed.

Services from Ashton-under-Lyne were being terminated at Trafford Bar, with the Etihad Campus to MediaCityUK service suspended.

The Bee Network website states that there will be no service until the end of service on Wednesday 15th January 2025 (or until further notice, depending on which page of the website is to be believed).
