Classic Motorcycle Day returns to Crich Tramway Village

In Pictures: Supertram rail replacement on Holme Lane

The weekend of Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June saw more improvement works take place on the South Yorkshire Supertram network with new rails being laid along Holme Lane. The work meant that Blue route trams could not run to Malin Bridge and so they were diverted to run to the usual Yellow route Middlewood terminus, leading to the unusual sight of trams apparently on the Yellow route on sections of the line usually not served by that route.

London Trams strikes off after pay deal agreed

Strikes which had been set to cause major disruption across the London Trams network during July have been cancelled after members of Unite the Union voted to accept a new pay deal which could see some enjoy a pay increase of up to 20%.

Change in Bus+Metro ticket prices

Anyone who travels on the West Midlands Metro using a combined bus+Metro ticket has seen an increase in the cost as from 30th June. The change does not come about because of any changes to Metro fares though with, as the statement is very keen to point out!, the change occurring on the bus side of the ticket.

Blackpool Transport look for feedback into new tram timetable

Its only been running for just over two weeks but already Blackpool Transport are looking for feedback on the new timetable operating on the tramway. If you were being charitable you’d suggest that its good that they are willing to listen but when you look at the detail of the survey then you start to realise that this feedback could actually see a reduction in the service not an improvement!

Rail Safety Week sees new tram safety campaign launched

Backed by the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB), a new national campaign has been launched to enhance pedestrian safety around trams and tramways in the UK. Both Edinburgh Trams and the Blackpool Tramway are the first to sign up to the campaign which sees new signage put up to encourage pedestrians to look up from their phones when around trams.

Passenger journeys increase on Luas

Newly released figures by the National Transport Authority have shown that 2023 saw record-breaking numbers travel on public transport in Ireland. Figures across all public transport increased by 5% but for Dublin’s Luas tram system it was even better news than that.

Fares to increase on NET again from 1st July

Nottingham Express Transit have confirmed that their fares will increase from Monday 1st July. In making the announcement they have cited that increase are required to allow continued investment in the network whilst also blaming high energy costs and the continued government backed £2 single fare scheme on buses (and not including trams).

Metro and CBSO extend partnership

West Midlands Metro have announced that their partnership with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra has been extended for another 12 months. The partnership was first launched last year when tram 45 received a full vinyl wrap and the two organisations will now continue to work together for another year after the renewal of the agreement.
