LRSSB strengthen international links at InnoTrans

The work being done by the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB) in increasing safety on UK tramways is being recognised internationally, with the recent InnoTrans event in Berlin providing the ideal opportunity for the organisation to strengthen their overseas links.

Carl Williams, LRSSB Chief Executive, said: “The conference and exhibition offered a fascinating insight into innovation across all aspects of light and heavy rail.

“While it appeared that the UK is playing catch up in some areas of tramway technology, when it comes to driving up safety standards, we are clearly leading the field, with a number of networks in Europe and the Middle East showing a particular interest in our pioneering accident and incident reporting system, TAIR.

“The launch last year of upgrades to the system has helped transform the way risks are identified and managed on systems in England and Scotland. In turn, the data it provides has driven risk modelling that’s enabling operators to make informed decisions on investment in mitigation measures.

“Following the success of the system here, we are now in talks with several overseas operators to establish how we can build commercial relationships that will enable them to follow our lead.”
