In Pictures: Supertram goes as far as Arena

The latest engineering works on the South Yorkshire Supertram system took place over the weekend of Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October. This time they were working on the overhead at Valley Centertainment which saw Yellow route trams only able to operate as far as Arena. In this article Stuart Cooke shows us the unusual destination on some of the trams in the Hillsborough area.

Throughout the weekend both Yellow and Tram-Train services were affected. For the Yellow route this mean that they could only run from Middlewood to Arena whilst the Tram-Train service didn’t run its entirety. As you’d expect there were replacement buses serving both routes, although this did serve Arena anyone who wanted to go beyond Arena was advised to make the change in the city centre at Fitzalan Square/Ponds Forge.

With heavy rain on what was a dreary early morning on Saturday 19th October, 112 (which still boasts about how green the trams are) does its best to add a bit of cheer to the scene around Hillsborough with the Arena destination showing.

We also see 109 as it goes to Arena as well. Note how the route colour is not shown. (Both Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 19th October 2024)
