National Tramway Museum win funding from Arts Council England

The National Tramway Museum have recently been awarded £492,880 of funding through the Arts Council England Museum Estates and Development Fund. This money will be used towards improvements for the Great Exhibition Hall, described as being at the heart of the museum.

Following the funding award, Roger Shelley, Funding Manager at the National Tramway Museum, said: “This funding marks an important step for the museum. The Great Exhibition Hall is at the heart of our visitor experience, and this investment demonstrates the value of protecting what we already have – a collection of historic trams designated for their national significance. At the same time as vital repairs to the roof and windows, the work will benefit all visitors by enhancing lighting, making the exhibition a more attractive experience. We’re incredibly grateful to Arts Council England in showing their confidence and for their support in helping us secure the future of this key building.”

Liz Johnson, Midlands Area Director at Arts Council England, added: “Museums can inspire us, provide connection, and help us to make sense of the world around us. The Museum Estates and Development Fund aims to ensure these landmark buildings are preserved, so their treasured collections can continue to be enjoyed.

“We’re pleased to award the National Tramway Museum £492,880 to refurbish their Great Exhibition Hall, making it weatherproof, improving the experience for visitors, and extending its life for future generations.”
