Edinburgh Trams prepare for Women’s 6 Nations matches

Saturday 18th April will see a historic day for Scottish women’s rugby as for the first time they will be playing a 6 Nations match at the main Murrayfield Stadium when they take on world champions England. And as is always the case when there are major events at the stadium the best way to get there will be by tram!

Revised Metrolink service as Manchester gets ready for a busy day on Sunday

Manchester Metrolink is expected to have a very busy day on Sunday 19th April as the city sees the annual Manchester Marathon take place whilst in the afternoon Manchester City take on Arsenal in a crucial clash at the top of the Premier League. Transport for Greater Manchester are warning people that trams will be busy and to avoid travelling at busy times, if possible.

In that intervening time it has enjoyed a full overhaul and repaint and upon its return it is looking as good as it has for many years! Full tram service to resume to Fleetwood Ferry

In Pictures: A look at preserved Metrocar 4001

It should be remembered that whilst a large number of the Metrocars have headed away for scrapping there is (so far) one which has entered preservation. 4001 – one of the prototypes – was donated to the Stephenson Steam Railway, which just happens to be on the site of the original Metro test track, and since arriving there on 11th September 2025 work has been underway to improve its appearance.

SNP call on a new route for trams to Granton

With Scottish Parliament elections set to take place next month the political hot potato of trams in Edinburgh seems to be on the agenda again with one of the SNP’s candidates for Holyrood (a current SNP councillor) stating that the SNP Group are against both proposed routes of the tramway to Granton. His pronouncement as part of his campaigning then saw the current Council Transport Convener say that his comments would jeopardise the entire scheme. All in all a pretty standard week for tram expansion in Edinburgh!

Heaton Park Tramway to host Model Tramway Exhibition
