Stop by Stop London Trams: Central Croydon – Church Street

Our journey on London Trams continues through central Croydon as we now head to the stop at Church Street.

As we depart the single platform at George Street we continue for a short distance on that road before crossing the pedestrian entrance to one of the main shopping streets in Croydon and then we are onto Church Street. As with the single track section on George Street this is a narrow road allowing the tram to carry on before we each the next stop.

Church Street again has a single platform on the right hand side in direction of travel. It has shelters, ticket validators, electronic passenger information displays and lots of written information about travelling by tram. Again there is a footpath either side of the tracks here with various commercial premises lining the road.

In this photo we see Variobahn 2561 arriving at Church Street with a service to Elmers End. Its an early morning Sunday timetable (although it is a Bank Holiday Monday) which means the first services of the day to Elmers End run round the loop rather than to Wimbledon.
