West Yorkshire and Government united in their Mass Transit ambitions

Leeds – and the wider West Yorkshire region – have long had ambitions for a mass transit system, whether that be a full-blown tram system or a trolleybus network. It appeared last year that these ambitions would finally be realised but a setback came later when the relatively newly formed West Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority were told to delay (the dreaded re-phasing of the project) by the Government. However, a recent visit by Lord Hendy (Rail Minister) gave the chance for both sides to reaffirm their commitment, whilst more support has come – including from Leeds United FC.

Luas 5037 returns to Dublin

Reduced frequency for Metrolink from end of March as major works programme to start

In Pictures: Driver training underway to Millennium Point

Trams have returned to Wolverhampton St George’s once again with services resuming from Monday 9th March. This is just phase one of the enlarging of the network in 2026, with the second part set to be the start of services to Millennium Point on the Birmingham Eastside extension. That shouldn’t be too many weeks away either with driver training now underway, leading to a temporary timetable being introduced from Monday 16th March.

Passenger satisfaction on Luas continues to fall

Passenger satisfaction in services on Dublin’s Luas network has fallen once again, as the downward trend first seen from a survey in 2022 continues. The latest National Transport Authority (NTA) customer satisfaction survey has been released and it shows that the figures on Luas are on the way down.

Crich’s planned tram fleet for 2026 revealed

One minute it’s the never ending month of January and then boom, its almost time to start another operating season at the National Tramway Museum in Crich! With the museum set to open for the first time in 2026 on Saturday 14th March preparations are well underway to commission trams for service, and again a mixed fleet of trams is set to be made available for service.

KeolisAmey set to take on Luas contract

Although nothing official has yet to be announced, reports from Ireland have said that a KeolisAmey joint venture is set to be awarded the new contract to operate and maintain Dublin’s Luas network. This will bring an end to 22 years of Transdev being the operator.
