Alstom Citadis 502 no. 5037 has returned to Dublin following the completion of repairs in France. The tram was back in Ireland on Monday 9th March 2026 after being away for 15 months.
5037 was the tram which was severely damaged during riots in Dublin during November 2023. It was attacked by rioters and this included it being set on fire causing significant damage. After assessment it was decide the tram would need to be sent away for work to take place to get it back to an operational condition.
French firm SAFRA, a specialist in reconditioning and heavy maintenance of urban passenger transport vehicles, were contracted to complete the work. 5037 was split into two and sent over to France in December 2024.
It had been hoped the tram would be back in Dublin in the first couple of months of 2026, but this was slightly delayed with it finally arriving back at Sandyford Depot on Monday 9th March 2026.
Further work will now take place on commissioning the tram before it can return to service once more.
