Still Standing! LCC Section Box

In this edition of “Still Standing!” we find a London County Council Tramways section box – nowhere near where any trams ran!

As you can see from the below photo this is a 1928 section box and can be found at Upminster District line and C2C station. The mystery of this is that the nearest tramway to Upminster would have been the former Ilford Corporation line to Chadwell Heath which was converted to trolleybuses on 6th February 1938. Quite how the box came to end up here is unknown but possibly was moved following the closure of the tramways and repurposed here just not for trams!

  1. Ken Jones says:

Apparently was used by bus inspectors, and also there was another one in Crosby Road, Dagenham for similar purposes
