South Yorkshire transport operators will again be supporting Armed Forces Day by offering free travel to serving members of the Armed Forces and veterans.
Free travel will be offered on Supertram services (as well as First Bus and Stagecoach bus services on the second date) as follows:
- Saturday 20th June – for those attending Armed Forces Day events in Sheffield and Rotherham
- Saturday 27th June (National Armed Forces Day)
Free travel is available to:
- Serving Armed Forces personnel in uniform or with valid military ID
- Veterans displaying a Veterans’ Badge, Veterans ID Card of military medals
- Cadets in uniform attending Armed Forces Day events
Nigel Wragg, Commercial Manager at Supertram, said: “Armed Forces Day gives us a chance to recognise and thank the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our country. We’re proud to support the celebrations in Sheffield and Rotherham by offering free travel, helping people attend events and show their appreciation for the dedication, professionalism and sacrifice of our Armed Forces community.”
South Yorkshire Deputy Mayor, Kilvinder Vigurs, said: “We are delighted to support Armed Forces Day by making travel free for those who serve and have served, as well as cadets taking part in local events. By removing the barrier of cost, we hope to make it easier for people to attend celebrations across South Yorkshire and for communities to come together in recognition of the Armed Forces. It is a small token of our appreciation, but I hope it goes some way to enable these moments of connection and celebration.”
To claim free travel, one of the following should be presented:
- Ministry of Defence-issued ID card (MOD90)
- Veterans’ Badge or Veterans’ ID card
- Any official documentation proving status as a serving member or veteran
