Trams &: Edinburgh Trams 277 & Spirit of Tasmania IV

For the next few weeks we return to another of our regular pictorial series “Trams &”. In this series we take a look at trams alongside another form of transport and in this edition we are off to Edinburgh where it’s a boar (a rather large one!) alongside a tram.

For over six months between late 2024 and the middle of 2025 there was a curiosity berthed in Leith Docks – Spirit of Tasmania IV. This was one of two ferries which were built in Finland for the state of Tasmania in Australia but with the new dock down under not being ready a temporary home was needed for them. With winter ice in Finland it wasn’t appropriate for it to remain there and so off to Leith it was for temporary berthing.

In this photo we see the ferry on the right with the vertical Leith Distilliery in the distance in the centre of the photo. Tram interest this time around comes in the shape of the last of the CAF trams built for Edinburgh, 277.

At the time of writing the ferry is now in Tasmania but has yet to enter service. As for the tram that remains in service.
