More information given on West Midlands Metro ticket machines

As ticket machines continue to be installed across West Midlands Metro stops, the company have now released further information of the plans for the introduction of the machines which will eventually see at least fitted to every stop on the network.

In Pictures: Normal services start on Blackpool’s North Station extension

Normal services are now underway on the newest section of open tramway in the UK with the first public service arriving at North Station on the morning of Sunday 16th June as planned. This follows several days of preview with special tours running including, on Saturday 15th June, the first heritage tram with passengers to make its way along Talbot Road.

In Pictures: A Bank Holiday in the east

The East Anglia Transport Museum was once again open over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend with its usual mix of trams, trolleybuses and trains in operation. Bryan Grint visited on Sunday 26th May when he found Blackpool 634 again in service with London Transport 1858 also in action.

In Pictures: New Hanson’s Bridge lifted into position

It’s the final bridge needed for the first phase of the West Midlands Metro line to Dudley and Brierley Hill and it is now going back into position as part of another major milestone in the construction of the extension. Crossing Birmingham New Road the old structure had become a local landmark thanks to a Hanson’s Mild Ale advert which had been applied many years ago and in a look back to its heritage the new bridge has reproduction ads in place as well.

More Metrocars scrapped

The wait for the new Stadler bult trains to enter service on the Tyne and Wear Metro may be continuing (although we have at least seen daylight testing get underway) but that has not stopped more of the original Metrocars head away from Gosforth Depot to be scrapped. Since we last reported on scrappings a further three have now gone.

Another busy day for Metrolink

Manchester Metrolink is celebrating another day of moving the crowds with 26th May being confirmed as the fifth busiest Sunday on record. It was part of a busy day for public transport across Greater Manchester with the Greater Manchester Run taking place in the morning and the Manchester City Champions Parade in the evening.

Whether you take it as being 88 years (trams on Talbot Road) or 61 (trams to North Station) there’s no doubt its been a long time (and it seems for a lot of that we’ve been waiting for the thing to be built and open!) but finally on Wednesday 12th June the first passengers enjoyed a ride on the latest UK tram extension to North Station, Blackpool at the start of several days of special launches.

New event for Crich as they go back in time to several periods

The Crich Tramway Village has long been home to a TARDIS (or old fashioned Police Box if you prefer to be more grounded in reality!) so is no stranger to travelling in time but a new event on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June will see several different periods represented. Past Times Living History Weekend brings history alive from the 15th century all the way through to the mid-20th century and is an all new event for 2024.
