More progress for Birmingham Eastside extension

The Midland Metro Alliance are once again celebrating a key milestone in the construction of the Birmingham Eastside extension with rail now in place from Lower Bull Street, through Dale End and into the dual carriageway on Moor Street Queensway. This will help the project to achieve the partial opening of the line in 2025/6 as far as Clayton Hotel.

DLR trains slowed down after review

Trains on the Docklands Light Railway are now running at slower speeds following a safety review by Transport for London, reports the BBC. The decision was made during a review of the signalling system where it was found that the difference between the speed trains were running and the maximum recommended speed did not have enough of a safety margin.

Body worn cameras to be introduced on Supertram to help safety

With the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority recently revealing that in the three months between April and June that there have been nine incidents of anti-social behaviour on board Supertram aimed at conductors, they have unveiled a number of measures which they hope will improve on-board safety.

Two more new trains arrive on the Tyne and Wear Metro

Although none have yet to enter service, the number of new trains delivered to the Tyne and Wear Metro continues to gradually increase with another pair arriving in the early hours of Friday 13th September. 555 006 and 555 007 are the two latest arrivals.

In Pictures: Metrolink 3081 goes pink with new advertising vinyls

Manchester Metrolink 3081 is certainly standing out from the crowd on the network now after it received bright new pink advertising vinyls. The tram is now promoting Juneyao Airlines, a Chinese airline who chose Manchester Airport for their first UK service starting from July 2024.

Crich receive Heritage Fund grant

Crich Tramway Village have announced that they have been awarded a special Heritage Grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The award, worth £83,080, is in support of a year-long project to help build the business resilience of the Tramway Museum Society.

In Pictures: West Midlands Metro 58 receives advert for Birmingham City University

The number of trams carrying adverts on West Midlands Metro has doubled with new vinyls having recently been applied to Urbos100 58. The tram is now advertising Birmingham City University with a full wrap in place, except for the ends of the tram.

A record breaking day for public transport at the Great North Run

It wasn’t just the runners breaking records at this year’s Great North Run – it was a record breaking day for public transport in the area as well. Local services saw 146,000 customer journeys made on the day, which was a rise of nearly 20% in two years.

West Midlands Metro celebrate success at European Tram Driver Championships

As we reported a few weeks ago the West Midlands Metro sent a team to the European Tram Driver Championships in Frankfurt and now the dust has settled on the contest it has been revealed that whilst they didn’t win the entire competition they have UK and Ireland bragging rights as they were placed highest amongst the three teams who went along.

Two members of the Edinburgh Trams team have been recognised internally with “You are Tramtastic” awards in recognition of their efforts to help entertain passengers during the Taylor Swift concerts earlier this summer at Murrayfield Stadium. Driver Jade Holden and Ticketing Services Assistant Tony Wallace have been praised by colleagues after going the extra mile to get everyone into the spirit of the occasion.
