Around the World in Trams: Warsaw 1388+1389

“Around the World in Trams” returns to Europe as for the month of June we go to Poland and Warsaw to see some of the trams in operation there during 2023.

The tram system in Warsaw today is the second largest in Poland (the Silesian system is bigger). But even though it only comes in second place it serves half the population of the city and with just over 90 miles of route and a fleet of 726 trams (still making it the envy of most cities in the UK!). It runs on standard gauge track and features 28 different routes. The history of trams in Warsaw goes all the way back to 1866 when a horse tram line was opened, and things just built from there.

In this photo we see two Konstal 105Nb/e trams in service on route 25. Leading the way is 1388 which was built back in 1994 and remains in service to this day. 1389 is its partner and also entered service in 1994.
