For the next few weeks we are off to the East Midlands for some more archive images taken at Crich, and we start off with a very early image from the museum.
This photo was taken on 8th June 1962 – a time before any public services had run at the museum (these were not to start until the following year). Those first services were in the hands of Sheffield 15 and it is that tram which we see in this image stabled with restoration work at a very advanced stage. 15 was one of the first trams to arrive at the burgeoning museum site with it being delivered there from Sheffield during 1959 and now some 60 years later it remains the horse tram of choice for special events.
Also seen in this photo is Blackpool Pantograph 167 still in its all over green livery painted when it was used on its home tramway as a works car. The tram joined the national collection in 1962 and had only arrived at Crich the previous month.
