ToTo to launch on 19th May

Edinburgh Trams have confirmed that the new ”Tap on, Tap off” system will be fully introduced from Monday 19th May 2025. As revealed a few weeks ago this system will allow users to pay for their travel on the tram by tapping their contactless payment card or device onto platform validators at the start and end of their journeys rather than having to buy a physical ticket.

More tram moves between Wednesbury and Dudley

The first couple of days of May have once again seen trams being moved between West Midlands Metro depot at Wednesbury and the Very Light Rail Innovation Centre in Dudley with another one heading that way before one came back. The two moves took place on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd May 2025.

Whitefield Tunnel works to start

Major work to ensure that Whitefield Tunnel on Manchester Metrolink’s Bury line remains safe will be getting underway this weekend with service changes required as a result. The work is seeing the replacement of beams which support the roof of the tunnel and comes after the successful completion of preparatory work.

In Pictures: Edinburgh 267 becomes the 2025 Royal Highland Show advert

Over the years advertisers have come and advertisers have gone in Edinburgh (whilst some have come and stayed!) but there are also some who come, go and then come again, and one of the most regular returners is the Royal Highland Show. And with this year’s Show taking place 19th to 22nd June, the start of May has seen their latest design affixed to a tram – this year’s tram being 267.

Fleet livery returns for two more trams in Manchester

There are more livery changes to report on from Manchester Metrolink and this time it is the return of full fleet livery for two trams. 3047 and 3097 had only been in advertising vinyls for less than two months but with contracts coming to an end the adverts have been removed once more.

New Metro trains latest subject of prolific YouTuber’s videos

Geoff Marshall – who came to prominence in 2017 when he visited all 2,563 stations in Great Britain – has recently paid a visit to northeast England where he sampled the new Tyne and Wear Metro trains in service for the first time. And the results of his visit have now been uploaded to his YouTube channel.

Out and About 2025: Tyne and Wear Metro – new train on test

There are currently probably double the reasons to go the Tyne and Wear Metro at the moment – on the one-hand you want to see the new trains which are gradually entering service and then on the other you know that the old Metrocars are starting to be withdrawn (and in some cases scrapped). In Pictures: Latest Supertram trackworks

The May Day Bank Holiday weekend has seen the latest trackworks on the South Yorkshire Supertram network as the investment from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority to improve the system continues. This time they are attending to the track at Gleadless Townend which has affected services on both the Blue and Purple routes. NET tram involved in road vehicle collision

Nottingham Express Transit services were suspended on much of the Clifton South line for over five hours on Friday 25th April following a collision between a road vehicle and a tram at Wilford Lane.

Havering Council admit no funding available for trams

Back in 2023, Havering Council (East London including towns such as Romford and Hornchurch) launched what they called a vision for improving infrastructure – this included better transport links and at the time they said that they would like to explore a tram system. Less than two years later and the same Council have admitted the plans haven’t progressed at all because they don’t have the funding available, although they state they hope to revisit them in the future.

West Midlands Metro service changes: May 2025

A few days ago the West Midlands Metro were saying how the best way to get to the Great Birmingham Run was by tram, and now they have confirmed that if you do use the tram you won’t be able to get beyond Bull Street as it will be one of two occasions in the month of May where there will be a temporary suspension of services in the city centre.
