A trip to… Manchester Metrolink’s Ashton line

In this pictorial article we see the results of a walk by Keith Chadbourne along part of Ashton New Road, which is served by trams on Manchester Metrolink’s East Manchester Line to Ashton-under-Lyne.

After the stop at Clayton Hall it’s the start of a lengthy section of on-street running as seen here with 3126 departing the stop on its way to Ashton.

3131 works along Ashton New Road with a service to Eccles.

In this photo we see a tram heading the other way as its 3070 on its way to Ashton.

Another Ashton bound tram is captured on camera in this view as 3144 approaches the camera.

The Ashton line sees a few double trams diagramed as part of the standard service. On this trip that included one of three trams which had only just been wrapped in an advert for xtb. Its partner was 3061. (All Photographs by Keith Chadbourne, 12th February 2026)
