Edinburgh Trams to possibly be disrupted on Sunday 17th May

Update 17/5/26. No disruption to the service after all with Hearts losing at Celtic 3-1 meaning the title went to Glasgow after all.

Edinburgh Trams may have to operate a split service on Sunday 17th May – but its not known for certain if they will be yet as it is all dependent on whether Hearts FC win the Scottish Premier League title the previous day (and probably down to what VAR may have to say on the day!).

Major Metrolink trackworks in May

May 2026 will see two sets of major trackworks take place on Manchester Metrolink affecting services on the Oldham and Rochdale line as well as through Piccadilly Gardens. Bus replacement services will be in place during the works which is the latest part of the £150 million investment to improve the tram network.

Nexus have confirmed that they have achieved a second consecutive award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for keeping their customers and workforce safe. They have been awarded the RoSPA Gold Award, which recognises organisations and individuals who have set the highest standards in accident prevention.

Four train service runs at the Volk’s Electric Railway

Sunday 3rd May 2026 saw four trains running in service at the same time on the Volk’s Electric Railway in Brighton. This was believed to be the first time in 40 years that such an intensive service was able to be operated.

Tributes paid to man who masterminded the Tyne and Wear Metro

Tributes have been paid to Professor Tony Ridley, the man who masterminded the Tyne and Wear Metro, who has passed away aged 92. Professor Ridley – originally from Sunderland – was the main driver behind the project in its early years and it is widely considered that without his leadership it may never have come to fruition.

Nottingham Express Transit Engineering Works: 24th to 31st May 2026

A section of the Nottingham Express Transit network will be closed for a week later this month with rail replacement works due to take place at Nottingham Trent University. Between Sunday 24th and Sunday 31st May (inclusive) there will be no trams running between The Forest and Old Market Square whilst the work takes place.
