It is time for another edition of “Meet the Trams” as this time we take a look at the first of the upper section trams on the Great Orme Tramway. That is no. 6.
Although the upper section trams were built at the same time of the lower section examples, they wouldn’t carry their first passengers until around a year later. The upper section would open on 8th July 1903.
Along with its fellow upper section tram, 7, there have been a couple of collisions over the past 25 years. The first happened in April 2000 which resulted in 37 injuries (17 being taken to hospital) and the second in September 2009 (no injuries reported). Both resulted in investigations and a strengthening of training and maintenance.
6 is named St Seirol, another 6th century North Wales Saint.
