Since we last reported on the scrappings of redundant Tyne and Wear Metro units there has been one further move – which means there are only four remaining on the Metro network.
The last train to go for scrap was 4050 which was transported to Howdon in between two of its still operational classmates. Those two units were 4041 and 4081 which continued the tradition of Metrocars going for scrap being towed in between two other examples.
The move took place on Thursday 27th August 2026.
That means that the remaining four are 4024, 4029, 4041 and 4081. They will likely next be seen when the Railhead Treatment Trains start this autumn with two being used top and tail on those workings.
