In Pictures: Update on Crumpsall works

When trams start to run on the Trafford Park extension in 2020 they will be operating a service through Manchester City Centre to Crumpsall giving additional capacity on the Bury line. To this end a third platform and track will be provided at Crumpsall to accommodate the terminating trams and this is where work will be concentrated over the next year before services began. The following photos show the current scene on 18th January 2019 with images courtesy of Keith Chadbourne.

As 3025 is at the rear of a double unit with a Bury to Altrincham service we look south towards Manchester City Centre in this view including the new foot crossing which replaced the old bridge in early 2018. The new track and platform will arrive at the stop on the far left on this photo where the MPT compound is still in place.

Work underway at Crumpsall the opposite side of the long standing Manchester bound platform. Not much progress has been made here in recent months but with service not due until 2020 there is still plenty of time!

3053 approaches Crumpsall for Bury. This view clearly shows where the track will lead to the new platform at the stop. It should be remembered that in the old railway days there was a coal yard at Crumpsall with the access siding there being in approximately the same position.

A general view of Crumpsall stop taken from Crumpsall Lane which heads over Metrolink at the Bury end of the stop. This photo clearly shows where the new track will be laid plus the extended width of the platform. (All Photographs by Keith Chadbourne, 18th January 2019)
