Heaton Park trackwork progress – in pictures

The extending of the trackwork at Manchester’s Heaton Park Tramway continues, as the Lakeside site is prepared for the construction of the tramway’s new depot. The short stub track of the double-track terminus has continued to grow steadily, with a set of points now meaning that trams taking this direction can then head towards the left or right.

This new pointwork will ultimately connect up to the track within the depot itself, and as this is expected to have three roads inside, the points needed to be installed to create suitable access for the trams. A milestone occured on Tuesday 2nd October when Stockport 5 was used for gauging trials on some of the newly-laid rails, as illustrated below. Blackpool Brush Railcoach 623 is more often used for testing purposes such as this, but on this day the tram was receiving some weatherproofing work and so car 5 was used instead.
