A colourful weekend beckons for Blackpool

Provisional plans for the heritage tram output in Blackpool over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend have now been revealed, with a loose theme of colours being apparent. The four-car service on the Saturday should be worked entirely by green and cream liveried trams, whilst the following two days are expected to feature a mix of green, red and brown trams on the now familiar ‘gold’ service consisting of six trams.

On Saturday 23rd May, it is intended to run four heritage trams and for most of the day these should provide a twenty minute frequency between Pleasure Beach and Little Bispham. The planned output consists of four traditional green and cream trams – Standard 147, Brush 631, Centenary 648 and Balloon 715. As an added bonus, at 1610 one of these cars will depart from Pleasure Beach with a tour to Fleetwood Ferry.

Sunday 24th and Monday 25th May both adopt the theme ‘Pick a Colour’… with trams of at least three very different colours due to run on both dates, although the actual cars used are likely to be similar on these days. It is planned to operate the six car service with two green trams – likely to be Standard 147 and a Boat – two red trams, Boat 227 and Balloon 701, and two brown trams, Box 40 and Bolton 66. It is also possible that yellow Centenary car 642 may join in the fun to provide an additional splash of colour! Although the trio of purple ‘B Fleet’ Balloons are noticeably absent from this list a colourful spectacle should be provided and no doubt there will be plenty of impromptu photo opportunities featuring the various different cars.

As always, it must be remembered that the list of what is expected to run this weekend is only intended as a guide. The weather and other operational factors will play a big part in influencing the weekend’s tramcar output and all vehicles are subject to availability, but Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours can normally be relied on to entertain and these three days should be no exception whatever happens!
