Blackpool Council have started a consultation where they are seeking the views of the public on whether a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) should be introduced on the tramway.
The PSPO would be aimed at preventing unauthorised use of the tramway alignment between Starr Gate and just before Victoria Road West in Cleveleys (basically as far as the Blackpool Council area goes).
The unauthorised use they are looking at is vehicles – from delivery drivers through to cyclists – driving along the tram tracks, particularly noticeable in the paved sections of the tramway along the Promenade. There would still be exceptions for authorised vehicles (including the emergency services when answering emergency calls).
Any unauthorised vehicles found driving along the tracks would be subject to a £100 fixed penalty notice.
In addition they are seeking views on using lamp posts, illumination poles, beams and similar structures for non-authorised purposes.
If introduced the PSPO would be for three years before another review and consultation takes place.
