Tram moves between Wednesbury and Dudley continue

It may have been some time since we reported on the comings and goings of trams at the Wednesbury Depot of the West Midlands Metro, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t still been taking place! In fact on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd April there were a couple of moves between the depot and the Very Light Rail Innovation Centre at Dudley.

The purpose of these moves continues to be for repairs to the original batch of CAF Urbos3 trams (most of which had already received some repair works but now need further work).

The latest moves saw 25 come back from Dudley on Tuesday 21st April and then the next day (Wednesday 22nd April) saw 32 leaving Wednesbury Depot at around 1800 and then arriving at Dudley shortly before 1915.

It may not exactly be the rarest of all photos – a West Midlands Metro tram on the back of a lorry has been seen countless times over the years, probably more than any other tram in the UK – but it has been some time since we last saw one of the Urbos3s being transported by road. This is 32 arriving at Dudley during the evening of 22nd April 2026. (Photograph by Andy Walters, 22nd April 2026)

If only the wizard gave them a brain,

If the tram line between Wednesbury to Dudley is completely why not get 25 on the new track in Dudley town centre and ger midland metro alliance to test the track on a return to the depot,

  2. Ray Shill says:

Whilst the Metro Depot is beside the new line, I presume that if they could travel via the Delta Junction onto the tracks to Dudley is the line energised yet and even if they could get to Dudley is there a link now in place with the metro and the VLR?
