Metrolink delays after car and tram collides at Ashton West

Manchester Metrolink services on the East Manchester line were temporarily delayed on Thursday 6th May after a car and tram collided close to the stop at Ashton West. M5000 3078 was the tram involved with the car being a dark red Ford. It led to all trams being suspended between Ashton Moss and Ashton-under-Lyne while the incident was dealt with.

And another! Douglas Horse Tramway 11 arrives in Birkenhead

You’d think that one new tram arriving at the Wirral Transport Museum in a week would be enough wouldn’t you? But no, the Merseyside Tramway Preservation Society have welcomed a second horse tram from the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway with no. 11 being delivered to the Taylor Street Museum just a day after 47 arrived.

First phase of Metro depot demolition works completed

As well as supplying a fleet of new trains to operate on the Tyne and Wear Metro network, Stadler have also been contracted to rebuild the main depot at Gosforth with VolkerFitzpatrick having been taken on to complete this work on their behalf. With work having started last year three depot roads and an area of the main depot building have now been successfully removed and attention will soon be turned to track foundation work as the project continues.

Douglas Horse Tramway 47 moves to Birkenhead

In another of those unexpected tram moves, the Wirral Transport Museum at Taylor Street in Birkenhead is now home to a derelict Douglas Bay Horse Tramway tramcar with no. 47 having arrived at the museum on Tuesday 4th May 2021. The tram has not run in service since 1978 and most recently has been stored in the open at Jurby Transport Museum so its move to England will hopefully be a positive development for this 110 year old tramcar!

More trams to run in Blackpool from 16th May

Almost as soon as we put one article up saying surely tram services will increase frequency in Blackpool as restrictions are continued to be eased then we have to write another saying exactly that! Sunday 16th May – the day before the next milestone in the government’s roadmap – will see a much improved timetable running on the Blackpool Tramway with first trams off Starr Gate of 0500 and last tram not back until 0116 (Mondays to Fridays).

In Pictures: 001 back in service in Blackpool

With the Blackpool Tramway continuing to run at a reduced frequency – a frequency which will presumably increase as we enter the summer and the expected continued easing of restrictions – the full fleet of 18 Flexity2 trams has not been required which has led to a number of trams not having been used for some time (the most significant of these being 004 and 007 which have been missing for many months). One of the trams which had been missing for a while is 001 but that returned to action during mid-April, still carrying its advert for the various Merlin run attractions in Blackpool.

TfGM celebrates 10 years of progress

At the start of April 2011, Transport for Greater Manchester came into being after the former Greater Manchester PTE was rebranded following the awarding of additional powers. Over the past ten years there have been many hugely successful projects implemented by TfGM – and many of these have impacted on the Manchester Metrolink network which has seen major expansion over the last decade.

Douglas Council leader calls on horse tramway to be stopped at Sefton Hotel

Unfortunately it remains the story which keeps giving more news – the saga of the redevelopment of Douglas Promenade and the relaying of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway tracks. The latest person to give their opinion is the current leader of Douglas Council, David Christian, who has called on the line to stop outside the Sefton Hotel on Harris Promenade and that the tracks along Loch Promenade to the Sea Terminal should not be laid at a later date.

Overhead issues cause West Midlands Metro suspension

Services on the West Midlands Metro into Birmingham City Centre were suspended for much of Sunday 2nd May 2021 after “damage to the overhead lines”. The news of the damage was first made on the West Midlands Metro Twitter account shortly after 0730 on the day with a full service not reported as resuming until 2148.

New additions to Crich’s Woodland Walk
