More engineering works at Victoria to affect Metrolink services during January

Trackworks at Victoria Station during January 2022 are set to see service changes of Manchester Metrolink with no trams able to run through the station. The works have been timed to coincide with other essential works on the Network Rail lines at Victoria to limit the overall duration of the works and the impact on passengers and the local community.

Memorial unveiled to “Benton the tram stop cat” in Nottingham

A memorial has been unveiled at Nottingham Express Transit’s Inham Road tramstop to “Benton the tram stop cat” who sadly died in the summer. Benton was a much-loved cat who was frequently found at  the tramstop and was popular amongst commuters, tram users and local residents.

NET 220 named Sir Martyn Poliakoff

There has been a new tram naming in Nottingham with Citadis 220 being named “Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff” in honour of the celebrated professor at the University of Nottingham, a global leader in science and a familiar face to millions through his hit You Tube science videos. 220 had previously been designated as the Nurse of the Year tram with a different name carried each year after that ceremony although that purpose would seem to have ended for the tram now.

Opposition councillors call for revised Trams to Newhaven business case

Scottish Conservative opposition Councillors on the City of Edinburgh Council have made calls for a new business case to be drawn up after it was confirmed a £18 million dividend from Lothian Buses will no longer be available. Despite these calls finance chiefs at the council have stated that this will be more than made up by lower borrowing costs.

E-scooters banned from TfL and Tyne & Wear Metro

Both Transport for London and Nexus have recently confirmed that privately owned e-scooters (and e-unicycles) are to be banned from services under their jurisdiction due to safety concerns caused by recent fires on TfL premises. The ban will come into effect from Monday 13th December and affects anyone travelling on the Docklands Light Railway, London Tramlink and Tyne and Wear Metro (of systems we feature on this website – all TfL services have the ban in place as does the Shields Ferry).

In Pictures: Urbos 100s enter service on West Midlands Metro

We saw earlier this week that with the return to action of the West Midlands Metro on Wednesday 15th December came the entry into service of not one, not two but three of the newer Urbos 100 trams. As with the existing Urbos3 trams these vehicles were also built by CAF in Zaragoza, Spain but are of a slightly revised – and presumably improved – design with a number of differences both easily and not so easily discernable!

In Pictures: Blackpool single-line working switches sides as more wires go in

Its been another couple of days of interest in Blackpool with the single-line working between North Pier and Cabin finally matching the description on the Blackpool Transport website (at least for a day anyway!) whilst a couple more feeder wires have been installed in Talbot Square and up at Wilko’s.
