Over 55 million passenger journeys were recorded on Dublin’s Luas network during 2025 – the most ever seen on the modern tram system. The figures were released as part of the National Transport Authority (NTA)’s 2025 patronage figures which saw a 6% increase across all networks.
In total 363.5 million passenger journeys took place on services operated by Dublin Bus, Bus Eireann, Iarnrod Eireann, Luas, Go-Ahead Ireland, and TFI Local Link. This is in comparison to 2024’s figures which saw 343.6 million journeys recorded
Darragh O’Brien, Minister for Transport, said: “These figures clearly show that our continued investment in public transport is delivering real benefits for people and communities across Ireland. More frequent services, better connections and new routes are enabling more people to choose sustainable travel every day. The Government remains committed to expanding and improving the Transport for Ireland network, ensuring that public transport is an affordable, reliable and attractive option for all, whether in our cities, towns or rural communities.”
Anne Shaw, CEO of the National Transport Authority, added: “We are delighted to see such strong growth across the TFI network. These figures show just how important public transport has become in the daily lives of people and communities across Ireland. More passengers are choosing TFI because the network is helping them get to work, education, healthcare, and leisure with greater confidence and convenience. We will continue to work closely with our operators to support a network that responds to the needs of passengers and plays a central role in enabling sustainable travel nationwide.”
