South Yorkshire Supertram have announced that they have successfully trained their first group of Mental Health First Aiders as part of their ongoing commitment to enhancing colleague wellbeing and fostering a supportive community.
The newly trained Mental Health First Aiders are now prepared to:
- Act as a point of contact to reassure colleagues who are in need of support, experiencing emotional distress or experiencing poor mental health
- Listen non-judgmentally and hold supportive, confidential conversations
- Signpost colleagues to professional help when necessary
- Identify the signs and symptoms of a range of mental health conditions
- Use of a five-step action plan to assist someone experiencing a mental health issue
Megan Burns, Senior HR Manager at Supertram, said: “We are thrilled to see our first group of Mental Health First Aiders ready to make a positive impact. Investing in this training demonstrates our commitment to the wellbeing of our colleagues and the wider community. We believe that having trained Mental Health First Aiders will create a more supportive and understanding workplace, encouraging everyone to talk openly about mental health and seek help when needed.”
