Supertram train up first group of accredited Mental Health First Aiders

South Yorkshire Supertram have announced that they have successfully trained their first group of Mental Health First Aiders as part of their ongoing commitment to enhancing colleague wellbeing and fostering a supportive community.

The newly trained Mental Health First Aiders are now prepared to:

  • Act as a point of contact to reassure colleagues who are in need of support, experiencing emotional distress or experiencing poor mental health
  • Listen non-judgmentally and hold supportive, confidential conversations
  • Signpost colleagues to professional help when necessary
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of a range of mental health conditions
  • Use of a five-step action plan to assist someone experiencing a mental health issue

Megan Burns, Senior HR Manager at Supertram, said: “We are thrilled to see our first group of Mental Health First Aiders ready to make a positive impact. Investing in this training demonstrates our commitment to the wellbeing of our colleagues and the wider community. We believe that having trained Mental Health First Aiders will create a more supportive and understanding workplace, encouraging everyone to talk openly about mental health and seek help when needed.”
