Metrolink 3053 arrives in Manchester

Metrolink M5000 3053 has become the latest of the new trams for Manchester to arrive in the City. The tram was seen coming off the M602 at 1110 on Saturday 26th May from where it would then have gone to the Queens Road depot for initial commissioning work. Once this commissioning work is completed the tram will be moved to Old Trafford depot
where it will await an entry into service.

In other news from Metrolink the two withdrawn T68s – 1004 and 1011 – have now been moved from Queens Road to Old Trafford for continued storage and further spares recovery partly because the space is needed at Queens Road.

One further M5000 has now entered service with 3026 the latest to carry passengers. It is expected to be joined shortly by 3027 which is currently at Queens Road for the fitment of ATS and VRS equipment.

Also rumours are circulating that the line to Oldham may well open to passengers in June although Transport for Greater Manchester have denied that any opening date has been set as yet. As reported last week trams have been seen testing as far as Oldham Mumps in recent weeks which is a precursor to services starting.
