West Midlands Metro fares to increase below inflation again in 2025

It has been announced that the price of travelling on the West Midlands Metro will increase from 7th April 2025. The increase will be an average of 3.2%, with fares set to go up by between 10p and 30p.

Fares on the network were frozen in 2023 and the average increase in 2024 was also below the level of inflation. This year’s increase has been deemed necessary to allow further investment in the network with additional extensions due to come into operation in the coming years.

Michael Reading-Skilton, Metro’s Head of Commercial, said: “We remain committed to delivering the best possible value for our customers. We have looked to balance how we can continue to invest in the network whilst ensuring that the increase is fair for our customers.

“The tram remains one of the most affordable and environmentally friendly ways to travel across the region, offering significant savings compared to buses or trains for many journeys.

“In many cases, the tram is also a faster and more convenient way to travel, as reflected in recent customer satisfaction survey results.

“Overall, our average fare increase of 3.2 per cent is lower than those announced by other transport operators in the region. Metro customers can continue to save by taking advantage of a variety of multi-day, weekly, and monthly passes, which offer added convenience and flexibility.”

Some of the new fares as from 7th April will include:

  • Adult 1 zone single – £2.30 (was £2.20)
  • Adult 1-4 zone single – £4.80 (was £4.70)
  • Adult 1 zone day peak – £3.30 (was £3.20)
  • Adult 1-4 zone day peak – £6.90 (was £6.70)
  • Adult 1 zone day off-peak – £3.10 (was £3.00)
  • Adult 1-4 zone day off-peak – £5.40 (was £5.00)
