The Fleetwood Heritage Leisure Trust have managed to recover some of the tram rail which has recently been cleared from the former Blundell Street depot in Blackpool and it is planned that this will be used at the new Fleetwood Tram Museum when that is built. The site of the former tram depot in Blackpool is currently being cleared as the area is to see a major new housing development.
With assistance from the Contractors, VHE, members of the Trust were permitted to inspect piles of tram track removed from the site. When the depot was closed and replaced with a car park much of the track remained in situ and a piece of Blackpool Tramway history remained in place although the only things being kept on it in later years were cars. But all this will now change as the Trust have selected the better sections of rail from the discarded pile which have now been delivered to Fleetwood for storage before eventual utilisation in the Fleetwood Tram Museum at the Ferry.
The Fleetwood Heritage Leisure Trust are due to submit a Planning Application to Wyre Council later this month and are also preparing their case for a grant to build the Museum building. When the Museum opens many of the trams of the Trust will now be able to stand on historic Blackpool tram track which will be supplemented by other tracks to complete the Museum layout and an external display track.
The Trust will be present at the Fleetwood Transport Festival on Sunday 21 July where a talk on their plans will be given on board a Blackpool tram which will be on display courtesy of Blackpool Transport.
I am sure this has been asked before, but will there be any oppurtunity to connect the new museum with the B and F?
There are no plans for a connection between the new Museum and the Blackpool Tramway but hopefully its proximity to the light rail system will bring in visitors to view the trams.
