Private hires keep Blackpool trams busy

Despite the Blackpool heritage tram fleet officially taking a break between the late May Bank Holiday weekend and Sunday 23rd June, no less than four of the town’s historic trams have been out and about during the past seven days. All four were used on private hires and although details on the actual journeys performed and the reasons behind them are sketchy, it is pleasing to see so many people are hiring a heritage tram for various purposes.

A busy week for the traditional tram fleet kicked off with the illuminated Frigate 736 being used in connection with filming for The Harry Hill Movie on the evening of Monday 10th June. This was followed over the next few days by appearances from the Western Train 733+734, and also Fleetwood Box car 40. Then on Saturday 15th June, Bolton 66 ran to Fleetwood, again with a private party on board. The tram was sporting some decorations stuck to its saloon windows and white ribbon attached to the dash panels, suggesting that this may have been in connection with a wedding.

Hopefully despite the rather steep hire charges, more appearances like this will occur throughout the year, as this will give Blackpool Transport some welcome extra revenue which can be invested in the heritage fleet for the benefit of all.

How much does it cost to hire a tram?

Bolton 66 was seen today at 12.25pm between Norbreck and Little Bispham travelling north with presumably a private party on board.
